Create a Record Type name: “Technical Position” Step 1 to 3 went smooth. step 4, however, was a different story:

Instruction: Deselect the checkbox next to Make Available and select these profiles:

  • Recruiter: Technical
  • System Administrator

Went on completed the task by saving my new Record Type, only to realized I misread this step. I deselected“ Recruiter:Technical” and “System Administrator” Panic.

On the road to fixing my “little” mistake:

  1. Easy, I just need to go back to the object “Positions” record types and edit the record type: “Technical Position”.
  2. First Speed Bump: Can’t edit available profiles from the Edit Record Type page layout. ( Hmmm…I think to myself, this is going to be fun!) Let’s do it all over again. My plan: I will delete the record type and create it as new.
  3. First Error:

3. Hey, I am still smiling, thought, this is when the teacher in me started chanting mantras: -Always carefully read instructions and questions, do not assume you know it all. That’s is how you miss (select 2 or 3 answers ), when doing Victor’s Quizzes.

4. Easy!…all I have to do is go through each profile listed and edit the record type. I went ahead and took a screen shot, for reference, and went on my merry way: Setup/Profile/(one profile from the list above at a time)/Object Settings/position/edit/Record type: deactivate “Technical Position” activate “Master”. Nice I got it! might take long but this is a simple problem with a simple solution.

5. Wrong! meet: Chatter External User, Chatter Free User and Chatter Moderator User…They don’t have Object settings and as a result my chance to deactivate record type went out the door so I moved those to the end of the list…no time to waste… I got to keep on going!

6. Trailblazer Community to the rescue! my angel name:
Desiree Leslie. https://trailblazers.salesforce.com/answers?id=90630000000gjs1AAA

7. I followed her steps to the T!: **disable** the Enhanced Profile User Interface checkbox, went to Salesforce Classic and followed the 3 steps required with the 15 digit Salesforce id just as she told me to (not easy, but who has anything better to do with life than fixing a simple mistake in the Salesforce world?), voilà! I was able to activate the profiles “Recruiter:Technical” and “System Administrator” , instead of deleting the record type I activated the profiles, which was actually what I needed to complete my challenge.

Wanna learn something about all this? Pay attention to the instruction before you go guessing what life is gonna be. I assure you…that’s the long way.
